Family ServicesThe Hospice Family Services team is available to all patients and their families, offering practical and emotional support as they cope with living with serious illness, uncertainty, loss and grief. Physical illness can create all sorts of concerns, anxieties and worries for patients, their family and friends. It is normal that time is needed to adapt to what life threatening illness means.

Family Services can help with:
  • Information and advice on benefits, allowances and legal matters
  • Helping patients, their family and carers plan for the future
  • Liaising with social services concerning planning for discharge from the Hospice
  • Confidential counselling service for patients, their family and carers
  • An environment to enable families and friends to talk and gain support from one another
  • Assisting patients, family and carers to make important decisions
  • Finding ways of telling children difficult news
  • Negotiating and liaising with teachers and employers
  • Bereavement Support
  • Advocacy, advice and support.
The Family Services team also provide training to staff from other agencies such as nursing homes, social services and college students who want to improve their palliative care skills.
